Sea salt and acne

Sea salt is an easy cure for acne because it is all natural, mild, doesn’t need a doctor’s prescription and avoids deprivation of anything to achieve a clear complexion. Sea salt effectively dries out the pimples without damaging the skin. It is important to remember that it isn't the same as table salt - in fact applying table salt, or NaCl can produce counter effects to the skin.

Why Sea salt for acne?

Dead Sea salt works best but any type of sea salt is said to work for acne. The Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, is near Jerusalem in the Judean Desert. Dead Sea salt has 10 times more minerals than ordinary sea salt. The Dead Sea salts or minerals are calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium and iron, sulphur, phosphorus and chlorine. These minerals assist in cleansing, detoxifying and restoring a healthy status of the body, especially the skin and muscles. High sulfur content in sea salt is useful in the cleansing required to purify the skin of acne sufferers. Dead Sea salts thus are an endless source of balanced elements that aid in treating acne, and promoting great health and tone.

How to Use Sea Salt

Dissolve 2-3 cups of this salt in the bath tub and soak in it for 20-25 minutes. Thereafter, wash it off with plain warm water. This treatment can be used every day. When using Sea Salt as a bath soak for acne, you can add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bath water. The mixture is very effective for body acne and also relaxes away stress and sore muscles.

If you consume a lot of iodized salt in your diet, switch to balanced sea salt. You need to purchase authentic sea salt from a pet shop, and soak the face with this salt for as long as you feel necessary. Don't be fooled by products sold in grocery stores that are labelled sea salt. Seas salt should help treat acne, however a good acne cream is recommended alongside this treatment. Sea salt is also said to work well for acne spots as it acts by cleansing the spots. It is recommended to scrub these spots with fresh water thereafter.

Most people do not have side effects or negative reactions to topical application of Sea Salt. However as with all other natural acne treatments, in case of any problems, you might want to quit using it and talking with your doctor or homeopath about other possible options.
