Blue light laser acne treatment
Blue light laser acne treatment is different than other laser acne treatments. It is most frequently used for teenagers and young adults who have active acne blemishes, and is often recommended as an alternative to medicines like Accutane, which come with serious side effects. Plus, it can be a much more effective way of managing acne than using topical creams or other acne solutions. Although blue light acne treatment is often grouped with other laser acne treatments, it is not technically a laser. It is a warm blue light that fights bacteria and opens your pores, but it is not as intense as an actual laser beam. This blue light beam destroys the p. acnes bacteria that are most often the cause of acne. During the procedure, a doctor will expose your skin to the blue light for approximately 15 minutes. You will sit about 2 or 3 feet away from the blue light source. Blue light laser acne treatment is often used on the face or back, but can be used anywhere you are prone to acne breakouts. Many patents receive their treatment with Levulan, a topical acid that helps the blue light to be more effective.
The Cost of Blue light laser acne treatment
Most patients undergo several treatment sessions using blue light laser acne treatment. Of course, the results will vary based on each person’s skin, but most people find that it is quite an effective acne treatment. Each session usually costs around $100 to $200, making it more affordable than other laser acne treatment options. Still, insurance will not usually cover this elective procedure.
How many Blue Light laser acne treatments do you need?
It usually takes between three and eight sessions to achieve the desired results, and sessions are spaced about once or twice per week. After undergoing a series of treatment sessions, many patients choose to undergo another laser procedure to target another laser cause, such as excess oil production. If you choose to only undergo blue light therapy, your acne will only disappear completely if the P. acnes bacteria were the sole cause.Blue light acne treatments are fast and painless, and they can be used on teenagers and adults. After each treatment session, you can return to your normal activities immediately. You may notice redness or swelling in the area that was treated. In rare cases your skin may also become temporarily darker or lighter; this is more common in people with darker skin tones.
