Get Rid of Blackheads!
There are many ways to get rid of blackheads...
Blackheads, or open comedones are a type of acne vulgaris, they appear when excess sebum and oil produced by the sebaceous glands accumulates and clogs the hair follicles or pores. The black or dark yellowish color is the result of the sebum and keratin (which is the main component in hair)on the surface of the pore get oxidized when in contact with air. It is important to mention that one on the causes of excessive sebum production is high testosterone levels, that is why teenagers are the group most affected by blackheads, whiteheads and all types of acne vulgaris.
The natural process and function of the follicle unit, which is composed by the hair follicle and the sabacious gland, is to grow hair and produce natural oils to lubricate and protect the hair and skin. The sebum is secreted by the sebaceous glands into the hair follicle along with the growing hair and the natural tendency is to come out of the pore and carry on normally, however, there are problem causing agents like, excess oil production, P. Acne bacteria, ingrown hair, make up, dust and demodex mites to name a few, that can cause acne vulgaris and its different types and severity levels.
There are different ways to approach the problem of blackheads or any type of acne vulgaris, if you are a female and your problem is due to a hormonal imbalance, you might want to try oral contraceptives that can help with acne, if you are a male there are other ways to balance you hormonal levels, in both cases the professional advice of your Doctor or Dermatologist must be followed to avoid any major problems. Topical creams with Benzoyl Peroxide or Tretinoin are good to get rid of P. Acne bacteria population, you may also consider washing your face at least twice a day to keep your pores as clear as possible. There is no conclusive studies that link nutrition with acne, but blackheads and other types of acne vulgaris seem to diminish when a healthy diet is part of your lifestyle, because it helps detoxify the body and therefore every function becomes more efficient and normal, including the production of sebum by the sebaceous glands.
As you can see, you can choose take the internal approach to detoxify your body or balance your hormonal levels or you can combat the external factors. Maybe an attack from both fronts can give you better results, remember that all results vary form person to person and if your case doesn't seem to improve, seek the advice of your Doctor or Dermatologist.
