Uses of Tea Tree oil
The uses of Tea tree oil are to treat bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Often referred to as "first aid kit in a bottle" Tea tree grows in Australia with white feathery flowers in the summer, also referred to as "snow in summer”, grows to about 5 to 6 meters. Tea tree has a small trunk with thin bark; it has a bush like appearance. It is a member of the Myrtaceae family. The oil is found within the cells of the leaves, all member of this family have a strong aroma. When the leaves are crushed they give out ethereal oils. This tree has numerous siblings, which can sometimes look very similar but do not have the same concentration of oils as the Tea Tree. Such as the Eucalyptus, which is also, a myrtle plant that gives out ethereal oils very similar to the Tee Tree. However it’s not as effective in the healing powers as the Tea Tree. Eucalyptus is known for soothing coughs and colds, antiseptic oils that kill bacteria and fungi. However it consists of as high as 70% cineol. Cineol is known to cause skin irritations in some people. With Tea Tree oil a high concentration of cineol can reduce the potency of the oil. To be most effective tea tree oil should be low in cineol and high in terpinen-4-ol.
Tea Tree Oil Storage:
This essential oil is sensitive to light and air and should be stored in a cool place. It needs to be stored in a dark container, avoid plastic containers as the tea tree oil could destroy the plastic. Tea tree oil should not be used internally unless under supervised care of a physician.
Uses Of Tea Tree Oil:
You can use Tea tree oil directly, however, it is recommended that you first start with a patch test to avoid a sensitive reaction. When diluting the essential oil start with 5% Tea Tree oil to 95% product, water or any other compounds you mix tea tree oil with.
